The impotent regime in New Delhi

March 8, 2009 3 Comments by admin

An open letter to the Prime Minister of India in the aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

To

Prime Minister,
Dr Manmohan Singh

You claimed publicly that you could not sleep in the night when Mohd Haneef was arrested here in Australia . Many lives have been lost since due to terrorist attacks in India and you have given no indication this time that you are not sleeping well in the night. In fact you have been sleeping all through and have made no concrete policy to thwart such heinous acts.

Your government has been in denial mode ever since you took power and you have the blood of innocent victims smeared on your hands. City after city we have seen the defences of the Indian state being penetrated by handful of terrorists and you have allowed the whole country to be held ransom. Instead of providing foresight and decisiveness you have played poor politics and have failed to come out with a strong law to deter terrorists. That a major train station which has already been a target of earlier bombings was attacked again is a shame and a stab in the heart of the security establishment. For once Mumbai looked like Kabul and its a shame. You have politicised the response to terror right since you came to office. Refusal to grant the terror law to Gujarat and giving it to Maharashtra , you discriminated and played cheap politics.

One of the first acts of your government was to repeal the tough terrorism ordinance POTA and the results of this are clearly visible. Nearly 7,000 people have lost their lives during your government’s rule since 2004 in over 25,000 incidents. In 2008 terrorists struck Assam killing 62, 17 were killed in Imphal blast, 20 were killed in 5 bomb explosions in Delhi, 17 serial blasts rocked Ahmedabad and 60 were killed including 150 injured in terror strikes in Pink City. You and your government has remained a mute spectator and your response to each of these terror attacks in 2008 has been weak and sickening.

A small country like Indonesia had the courage and the political will power to give capital punishment to three of its own people who were involved in a single terrorist operation. In India , in spite of loosing over 10000 people in terrorist violence, there has been no capital punishment awarded to anyone. You have developed feet of clay over Afzal Guru who should have been hanged as demanded by the Supreme Court of India.

With so many foreigners held hostage and many of corporate honchos affected, the money supply lines given by these corporates to your party will significantly dry up and you are a step close of defeat. For the last 5 years your only achievement is the ratification of Indo US Nuclear treaty which you should have done in the first year of taking power and you have miserably failed on all other fronts.

The use by date of your government has already passed away and come elections I am sure the citizens of India will be ready to handover to you one of the worst defeats in the political history of India .

Removing the Home Minister is not enough, you need to now own the moral responsibility of failure and resign. Your administration is stinking and the citizens of India are waiting to give you a fitting response during the elections.

The time has come to write the political obituary of your hopeless regime.

Sincerely

ROHIT REVO

A NATIONAL LIABILITY:: RR PATIL, Ex Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister:  Indian politicians are totally disconnected from the Indian masses. The level of disconnection and the lack of intellect and education of some of these politicians shows up when they open their mouths in front of live television cameras. This is what the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister who was also handling the Home portfolio had to say about the Mumbai sige in which over 200 people were killed and over 500 injured.

“Such small incidents happen,” was what Patil told reporters. He created a storm with his remarks “bade shahron mein aise ek adh hadse hote rahte hain. Woh 5,000 logon ko marne aye the lekin humne kitna kum nuksan hone diya.” (Such small incidents happen in big cities. They (terrorists) came to kill 5,000 people but we ensured minimal damage)”.

Agree, there is no example of a Prime Minister resigning on terror attacks or corruption, other than Lal Bahadur Shastri resigning over a train accident. But does that mean we should allow such a practice to continue. Should the person holding the highest office not be held accountable?
