sikh pamplet 214x300 Sikh Community Angry The Sikh community is enraged over an advertisement originated in Queensland which casts aspersions on the Sikh religion and displays Sikhs and Sikhism in bad light. The matter was bought to the attention of THE INDIAN newspaper by GOPIO Parrammatta who have condemned this blasphemous act and demanded an immediate withdrawal. Jag Mohan Rawat, Joint Secretary, GOPIO Parrammatta has lambasted the Queensland based group for their audacity to print such an advertisement and has expressed outrage. Says an angry Jag Mohan, “If you reverse the advertisement caption this means there is no freedom in Sikh religion (sic)…which is absolutely demeaning and offensive to people belonging to Sikh religion and to everyone who belongs to India.” Jag Mohan adds, “It is sad to see that there are culprits within our own society whohave allowed themselves to be used as guinea pigs. There is a lot of education needed.”

Bawa Singh Jagdev Secretary of the Sikh Council of Australia has already written to Community Relations Comissioner. He termed the pamphlet not only disturbing to the Sikh community but as an insult to the Sikh faith and its philosophy and has requested authorities to take up this issue. He has also written a letter to the Pastors of the King’s Christian Church and told them they have no right to defame other religions and demanded an immediate withdrawal of these pamphlets and threatened legal action.

Amit Pall, President GOPIO Parramatta further emphasised  “that use of religion in such a way will fuel the difference already prevalent in the society more than bringing  close to each other. Moving onto different faiths is an individual prerogative but it should not be used to brand any faith as a symbol of freedom or captivity”
