Its Sydney’s best kept secret. Located in the midst of Sydney, in the heart of Auburn at the corner of Chisholm and Chiswick Roads is 9.2 hectares of lush parklands, called the Auburn Botanical Gardens. The park features a Japanese Garden with traditional landscaping including a waterfall, decorative bridges and ornamental trees set around a large lake. 649 320x240 dsc06418 Autumn in Auburn

The Autumn months are amongst the most beautiful of the year at the Auburn Botanic Gardens when the leaves begin to change colour and there is a winter chill in the air. The Japanese garden is blazing with colour. The leaves of the Japanese maples, Chinese Tallow Woods and Liquidambars are all turning to yellows, oranges and reds. The Camellias are also starting to flower.

“The gardens are looking better than ever with a major clean-up nearly being completed. The plants have been sculpted in a traditional Japanese manner using specialist Japanese techniques The Camellias, Azaleas and Photinias are now beautifully shaped into floating clouds and dragons.” Says Greg Hodges, Botanic Gardens Curator.

Auburn Botanical Gardens is the best place to admire the autumn colour and see the native animals at the Fauna Park and Aviary. With plenty of free BBQ’s available you can cook your lunch at your leisure. But beware of teenagers in the park who are bent upon creating trouble and sometimes attempt to take your belongings.
