Campbelltown Library received a large donation of books recently from the Indian Government. Presenting the collection to the city’s Mayor Cr Paul Lake, Amit Dasgupta, Consul General of India in Sydney said that he was happy to add value to the Library’s large collection.
The donation was facilitated by The Wizard of Oz Funland, Leumeah as part of its multicultural initiative to share in the cultures of the different communities who make up the rich social fabric of Macarthur.
“The idea is to encourage people from various communities living locally to come forward and share their culture with the rest of us. Not only will this give us a greater understanding and appreciation of our immediate neighbours but a great opportunity to try out some absolutely fascinating food and culture as a family!” said Brian Laul, the Funland’s director.
On Fri 5th & Sat 6th August 2011, the Funland once more hosts Bollywood Masala, its annual festival celebrating Indian culture, films & food. At last year’s Festival, Amit Dasgupta was a guest of honour and offered to contribute to the Funland’s multicultural initiative by donating a collection of books to the Campbelltown Library. Anyone who wishes to take part in this year’s festival is more than welcome to contact the Funland.
Receiving the books, the Mayor Cr Lake said that they are sure to be enjoyed by the local Indian families who are keen to share the history and culture of their country of origin with their children. He was sure they would also provide just as much enjoyment to anyone interested in opening their children’s eyes to other cultures and the wonderful stories and mythology India has to offer.
